Hirokazu Koreeda is one of the great directors working today.  His films are the most thoughtful explorations of family and the meaning of life.  In this little masterpiece, Doona Bae gives the performance of the year as an inflatable sex doll who comes to life and gets a job at the local DVD rental store.  “Air Doll” is funny, romantic, poetic, philosophical, erotic and tragic.  It is highly original and extremely moving.  This is a must watch film… especially for fans of Koreeda’s other work.

7. Mr. Nobody

This film stalled in distributor hell for years.  I am not 100% sure why.  The movie is a fantastic science-fiction tale about multiple timelines and various fates for an old man recounting his life on his deathbed.  Jared Leto, Sarah Polley, Diane Kruger and Juno Temple star in this endlessly imaginative and entertaining film.
